Road Rage

I don’t like getting overtaken by the Traffic Police when I  am puttering along at the speed limit. And it happens regularly. Far too regularly. Just as I object to very large 4×4′s, council bakkies and armed response vehicles which all assume they have right of way at four way stops. They are the same breed.

They are full of it and when I am having a bad day I crack.

I was travelling down Grey St towards the Waterfront when I pulled up at the four way stop at Olde’s. This just about at the same time as a Prime Security vehicle, CX 33796. I paused, he didn’t. I was marginally ahead, had right of way and had every right to pull into the intersection in high dudgeon. The driver in the Prime Security colours, who is apparently an inspector with the company, didn’t give an inch. Arrogantly stopping in the middle of the intersection. Blind and unrepentant attitude.

He had his family in the vehicle, was using it for private purposes and he did not seem to understand that whilst in uniform and whilst driving a marked vehicle, that he is a public figure with an obligation to set an example. This is not the first brush I have had with this company and it raises many questions concerning the discipline, training and management. I have reported the matter to Christo and it will be interesting to see what comeback there is, if any.

[EDIT] 6/8/10 Not having heard anything from Christo I left a message for the owner earlier in the week. He eventually got back me but it was not a particularly cordial exchange. He did not understand that irrespective of whether his employee had right of way or not he made a point of deliberately stopping dead in the intersection and blocking it. He has an attitude problem and the uniform makes it difficult to ignore. That is unless you are the owner of the company and that says all that needs to be said.

[edit 14/06/11] Prime Security does it again . I drew up at the intersection of Fitchat and Gray taking the kids to school. We had to wait for traffic proceeding both ways on Gray. During which time a Prime Security response vehicle CX 47961 stopped on the other side of the road, wanting to turn left. As the two way traffic passed I looked right to left to ensure it was still clear and having right of way I proceeded to turn only to be met by the Prime Security vehicle trying to jump the queue and sneak through. to add insult to injury the driver managed to spoil my day. No apology, no indication that he knew he was wrong. Just that blank arrogant stare that says “this road belongs to me”.

After dropping the kids off at school I found him checking on a guard in Nelson St and I confronted him. No apology. Just more attitude. Despite the fact I was ahead of him, turning into the intersection and had right of way he failed to acknowledge his mistake. He would not give me his name and once again presents one with an unfavourable impression of a company where discipline and accountability do not appear to be part of their training.[edit]

    Idiots – Megalomaniac idiots.
These guys are typical testosterone driven wankers.
You have more luck reasoning with a tree stump than with this kind of arrogant idiots. If only they can look at themselves from your perspective. See it and understand it….
Oh well… it takes all sorts…..even the wankers of the world to make it run.
